Tuesday, July 31 2007 Mark was up bright and early and took this shot of our rig at Valley View RV Park in Island Park, Idaho. Very nice park with a great view of a lake and the mountains across the road from us. For once we got a place at the front of the park.
We headed into Yellowstone with the Central Directors of our CCRVC.....Mike and Lana. They wanted to take their grandson fishing, so we headed out to Yellowstone Lake. It was a long drive to get there. We had a picnic lunch and then they got ready to head down to fish. Here they are getting their gear ready. Lana was checking her camera for her hunt for photo opportunities.
Here's the guys fishing and Lana posed with her camera getting a shot of a robin in a tree. These next two shots are of Yellowstone Lake. There were a couple of ducks of some type diving in the water out in front of us, but we couldn't get a good shot of them. About all that we could make out was that they had red necks. We had the scope out and could see them really good with that. They were moving too fast though for me to be able to get a photo using Mark's trick of the camera up to the scope lens so that we could figure out what kind of bird or duck it was.
While Mike's guys were fishing and Mark was reading his book, Lana and I went wildflower hunting. This one is Mountain Bluebells.
These below are Englemann Asters.
Here's a shot of Heartleaf Arnica.
We drove up the road a few miles and stopped at Fishing Bridge. We could only find just three cut throat trout in the river there at the bridge today. Guess that they have all moved on. Just last week there were hundreds, if not thousands, in the river at that spot. We then visited the General Store at Fishing Bridge. We spent some time in there looking over the merchandise. We bought a bag of pretzel rods to hold us over until dinner. We moved on north up the road to Hayden Valley. We had told our friends that if they wanted to see lots of wildlife, they needed to head up the roads on the east side of the park. Sure enough we were not disappointed. We found several herds of bison. This fellow on the right below was roaring and snorting. He wanted to cross over the road. I got a shot of him sticking out his tounge! The bison were running across the road just a few cars up in front of us.
This fellow wasn't in any hurry to follow the herd across the road. He was happy to just pose for pictures for all of us backed up in the traffic jam.
Here's a baby bison that was separated from his mother. Just wandering out there by itself. The herd wasn't far away though and I'm sure that it soon was next to it's mother again.
We continued up the road and paused at another bald eagle sighting. Lana got a few good shots of him. It was off too far for my camera lens to pick him up, but we had just taken some photos of a bald eagle yesterday. Then we passed by a pelican floating down the Yellowstone River. I did get a shot of him before we moved on up the road.
We knew that Barney was back at the trailer crossing his legs, so when we arrived at Canyon, we decided to head on back to camp. Barney was happy to see us so that he could get out for a walk. Mike, Lana and family stayed there in the park to tour the Yellowstone Grand Canyon and Tower Falls. On their trip home they saw some black bear as well. We were sure glad to hear that they had a good day of sighting wildlife and enjoying the wonderful views of the park.
